Wedding at the Miskin Manor Hotel

Laura & Dave were married in the stately venue of the Miskin Manor Hotel, near Llantrisant during December. They have an amazingly refreshing sense of humour, which made the day extremely enjoyable for their guests & for me to photograph.

They were serenaded by the surprise appearance of the 'Lucky Chimney Sweep' as they sat down to their Wedding Breakfast.

We haven't had the photobooth out quite as much as we would have liked recently, as they are great fun to shoot & prove really popular with guests.

We have a variety of fun props that we bring along but if you would like a themed photobooth, that's no problem just let us know.

It's been a really hectic summer, so we haven't been posting as frequently as we could/ should have been....

I thought I would start off again with Sian & Gary's wedding in mid August. A small, intimate gathering, which began with a ceremony in the lovely church of St Margaret in Aberamon (stunning roof above the alter), followed by a reception & wedding breakfast at the Ty Newydd country Hotel near Hirwaun.

Roath Park engagement shoot

Had a great engagement shoot with Becki & Huw at Roath Park, Cardiff one evening last week.

I do a lot of pre-wedding shoots & I think that doing so makes the Wedding Day photography that much easier & stress free for everyone involved - especially if you're one of those people who don't really like having your photo taken. The pre-shoot gives you a chance to realise that a) having your photo taken is really not that bad! & b) your photographer can take great photographs of you!

After MUCH uhhming & ahhhing we have finally decided to use Jorgensen as our main album manufacturer. Jorgensen is one of the most prestigious album makers in the World, their albums are beautifully made & will be a pleasure to own, just take a look at their website to see the quality of their albums.

We are in the process of getting a sample album made up at this very moment!! I can't wait to see it myself.....

Portraits....

I love photographing people, so it probably comes as no surprise to discover that I also shoot portraits as well as weddings, although I much prefer to photograph people in their own environment or in a location that they connect with, sometimes I take a portable studio to the clients home.

This is the case when it comes to photographing babies, I keep the lighting setup fairly simple so that it can be positioned quickly with the minimum of fuss & disruption.

Even quite small babies have a character that shines through in photographs, like in this picture of a baby & her dad....

Wedding at All Saint's Church, Pen-y-Fai.

Louise & Gareth were married on Christmas Eve at All Saint's Curch in Pen-y-Fai, followed by a reception at the Coed-y-Mwstwr Hotel in Coychurch. It was a great day for all concerned (although most of the concern had been focused on the weather in the previous days).

Jeni & Darren were married on the 19th December (a very wintery day!) at Penuel Chapel, Nelson, followed by their reception at the imposing venue of Caerphilly Castle. There was a little bit of to-ing & fro-ing with a 4X4 to get all the Bridal party to the Chapel but we safely arrived there in the end!

NEW!!! Photobooth!

Our first photo booth went up at Roxanne's & Chris's wedding last month. What a fantastic fun addition to our wedding collections! Everyone had a laugh and was a great way of capturing guests letting their hair down!

We are offering the booth at introductory pricing until the end of the year....so if you haven't booked one...what are you waiting for? Make your wedding reception the ultimate fun and see your guests as you've never seen them before! We want to make these photo booths as fun as possible and are collecting props to add an amusing slant to some of the set ups. However if you would like to theme your photo booth and provide your own props, that would be cool too!

Celtic Glass Craft

Last week Vanessa was looking for a birthday present for our niece and popped into the Model House in Llantrisant, there she met a really great guy - Ray Skene, of Celtic Glass Craft.

Ray makes beautiful handmade glass beaded jewellery in his studio there.

He made up this bracelet in Autumn colours for us.

A great idea if you're looking for something a little different to give to your bridesmaids as thank-you presents or need some jewellery to compliment your wedding theme.

Wedding at the Abbey Hotel, Tintern

We've been phenomenally busy over the summer & up to the end of September, so I haven't managed to post as much as I should have...

Here are a few images from Katie & Richard's wedding, held at Ty Soi Church, LLansoy followed by a really beautiful drive over to Tintern for their reception at the Abbey Hotel. We also managed to pop into the Abbey itself for a few photos while the guests relaxed with a very welcome drink!

I can't believe that the last post I made on here was to show you Lisa & Sam's wedding! Since then we've been hard at it photographing weddings, pre-shoots & editing the images.

June & July saw us photographing a wedding in the lovely village of Wedmore

followed the next week by Kate & Paul's wedding at Canada Lodge.

We then shot Samantha & Simon's wedding at Pentyrch followed by a reception at the Miskin Manor Hotel.

This was followed the next week by the wedding of Kate & Rob who had their ceremony at Llandough Cathedral & a reception in the splendour of City Hall, Cardiff.

We also photographed the wedding of Tracey & Lee at Maes Manor,

Danielle & Neil at the Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel & Spa....

...and Rachel & Mark's beautiful country themed wedding in West Wales.

Liz & Ian were married at St Fagan's Church, Trecynon followed by a reception at Bryn Meadows Golf Club, Maesycwmmer. Unfortunately the weather was not being too kind that day & it rained almost continuously......

A big thank you to the Reverend Kevin Lake for not only allowing me to take photographs from the front during the service (against his initial better judgement!) but also for allowing us to photograph the groups inside after the ceremony.

Thinking of asking a friend to photograph your wedding?

I don't know whether the uncertainty surrounding the economic climate is making financial matters seem worse this year compared to last year but we have met a few couples who initially thought to ask friends to photograph their wedding - which can be a great idea if they're experienced wedding photographers....

Unfortunately, last week we were approached by a recently married lady who asked if we would have a look at her wedding photographs to see if there was anything that could be done to improve them...... which in all honesty was not a great deal.

A well meaning friend had persuaded her to let him photograph the day - a wedding is a ONE off, it's a really fast moving event & obviously not the right time to learn about the camera & flash or how to create angles for great photos because once the day is over the photographs are going to be the only things that remain - now that does sound like a photographers quote!

So, my one piece of advice would be, if budget is a consideration, ask your preferred photographer if they would be prepared to shoot for a shorter amount of time (for less money!) - then ask family & friends to take photos to help 'set the scene' of the day around the professional photographs.

On a blisteringly hot day, Jennifer & Neil were married at the amazing Llandaff Cathedral followed by a reception at the Village Hotel, Coryton, Cardiff.

Unfortunately, as happens sometimes, we were not allowed to photograph during the Ceremony itself, this is always something to bear in mind when discussing the ceremony with the officials concerned ( registrar or clergy). A smile & friendly discussion can sometimes work wonders! Nevertheless, we obtained some lovely images throughout the day and here are a few of them.

May was a really busy month with 5 weddings photographed & several pre-shoots. We managed to cover a fair few miles, going to Craig-y-nos Castle, Llandaff Cathedral, the Village Hotel, the Bear in Cowbridge, not to mention St Fagans Church in Trecynon & up to Bryn Meadows Golf Club!

Lisa & Shaun were married at the Bear Hotel, Cowbridge. We have quite a few weddings at the Bear this year, it has a great atmosphere for a wedding, lots of nice places to photograph, with different background textures & colours.

On this occasion a vintage bus (courtesy of Nostalgia Experience, Tonyrefail) was on hand to run the Bride & Groom (and me, of course!) up to St Quentin's Castle for a few photographs.

We've now set up password protected, online proofing galleries. So our clients, their friends & families will be easily able to view their wedding photographs.

There is also the option for prints to be ordered direct from these galleries.We intend to leave each gallery up for a period of 3 months following the wedding.

If you remember, I posted a few '1st Dance' pics from Treena & David's recent wedding at Llechwen hall.

Yesterday they sent us a lovely thank you message,

'We received our photographs, DVD and CD this afternoon- thank you.
I have to say, we are totally gobsmacked, they are absolutely beautiful....stunning. You did a fantastic job.

When we looked for photographers for the wedding we did a web search which came back with some 18 candidates for the task. It became a bit of a lottery, but we totally hit the jackpot when we chose you!

Seeing them is like living the day over again. It's going to be tough choosing our favourites!

On Saturday we photographed a pre-shoot for Naomi & Dan who are soon to be married at the Maes Manor Country Hotel, Blackwood.

I must say the weather was kind to us as it rained heavily just the once!! Below are a few images from their shoot.

From the pre-shoot photos an image is selected to be printed up & placed in a mount. The guests then sign at the wedding reception! Simple really and the finished photo & mount looks great afterwards!

Capturing a moment

Whichever approach you take to photographing weddings, you invariably have to 'set up' or 'stage manage' some shots and it's not always easy for those standing in front of the camera to feel totally relaxed & be themselves. So I'm always on the lookout for that 'moment' - you know - those times when people forget there's a photographer around and just 'get on with it'! ....... and I do think I've captured one here.

I took this last summer while walking back to the Royal George Hotel, Tintern after shooting some small formal groups outside the Abbey. This was probably the first moment Claire and Mark could snatch together since the ceremony & here they share a private word!!
